Remember the movie “The Bone Collector” which starred Angelina Jolie and Denzel Washington? For some reason after reading the first page of “Predictable Violence,” my mind went to it for no reason. I love a good thriller, so I was hooked immediately.
A small presentation without any spoiler
The book is written by Gillean Campbell and has as main character a female detective named Mack who is sent to a small town in Idaho to solve a triple murder (a mother, one of her sons and his friend). The first half of the book also presents the history of the detective and how after a tragical event becomes a police officer.
I liked how the novel is structured. The present and the past are not mingling in the same chapters. After each episode regarding the murder case, a one about detective’s Mack unfortunate experience followed. I wasn’t a big fan of the ones from past, but because I wanted to know how the book ends, I kept saying “One more chapter and I will close the book,” so I knew I had to read at least two. Ths is how I’ve got to read the first 200 pages in a day. I was relieved when the novel focused only on the current events, but somehow then, I kinda figured out who the killer was so I just continued to read only to convince myself I am right.
Final Badgery thoughts on “Predictable Violence”
I don’t consider this book to be a thriller, but nevertheless a good murder-case book. It is easy to read, and it has that something that will make it stick to your hands till you finish it. Because of this, I recommend the future readers to start it on a weekend or holiday and not during working days.
P.S. Just a personal opinion. I would have enjoyed better if there weren’t any romantic story involved. For some reason, I imagined detective Mack to be a lone rider
