This book came as a vent of fresh air and surprised me with a fine thriller story. Easy to read, it was a pleasure dipping into its pages. When mystery mixes with some good romance and an intriguing murder, it keeps my mind and interest wide open. And the author, Jackie Kabler, did a great job for a debut novel.
TV Journalism, murder, love and mystery in an intriguing novel
Cora Baxter works as a TV journalist for the early morning news. Her quiet life turns upside down when her boyfriend dumps her before Christmas and her boss, hated by almost everybody, is murdered.
In a humorous and also exciting way, the author contours Cora’s life, between the daily coverages all around the country for the TV news, and her position in the investigation around the mysterious murder.
You must love Cora. She is funny, thoughtful, wise and a hard worker. And when her ex-boyfriend disappeared, and nobody cannot find the murderer, she somehow made her own inquiry.
Few things that make this lecture so atractive
All in all, the book is built around the criminal case, in a way that keeps the reader entertained but also curious to know who is the murderer and which was his reason to do that.
Interesting characters, believable dialogues and well documented journalistic facts, an original murder plot and so many suspects in a single lecture! This debut thriller book has the perfect recipe for an enjoyable lecture.
A moving story that I truly recommend. Must admit I am a little partial, as the author builds a great realistic portrayal of TV life, which I love. The way she describes relationships between the editorial team is so practical that it gives me the impression that the author really was part of it, one day. Oh, wait for it, she really did. Jackie Kabler has been a TV presenter for 20 years, so the main character is somehow built on her own TV experience.
Can’t wait to read this book’s follow-up, which is already on my shelves.
