I remember seeing the first episode of the TV series of “Game of Thrones” on HBO on the day it aired. After I finished it, I said to myself “Fuck this shit! I cannot stay without knowing what will happen next“, so I bought all the five digital volumes from Amazon, and I did what every ordinary student in its exams period would do: read them all in less than a month.
This is not a book review, this is a tribute for the series
The series, by its name “A Song of Ice and Fire,” is written by George RR Martin and it will contain seven volumes:
1. A Game of Thrones;
2. A Clash of Kings;
3. A Storm of Swords;
4. A Feast for Crows;
5. A Dance with Dragons;
6. The Winds of Winter;
7. A Dream of Spring.
It is seven years since I read the books and unfortunately, the last two volumes are still not yet published. However, in Romania, you can find the ones that are launched, printed by Nemira.
I don’t know what can I say about this books that it is not known by everyone. I even thought that I wouldn’t have the courage of writing about them because of the huge number of significant and experienced critics who talked about the series, so this article is not a review but a eulogy because I haven’t read any other better written. The author creates an astonishing and complex story like I never read in my entire life before or after. Because he created a whole world with maps of its own, he was somehow compared with J. R. R. Tolkien. I don’t think this is correct and I was happy to see an interview with the great novelist confirming my thoughts. He stated that if the “Lord of the Rings” saga is also a fantasy lecture available for children, he wanted to create a vision only for adults and I agree. His creation is not for kids.
Because I absolutely adored everything that has to do with the “A Song of Ice and Fire” books: the characters, the descriptions of the Seven Kingdoms, the world beyond The Wall, the writing style, I couldn’t watch anymore the TV series. Even though each episode is so well thought and produced, it lacks the emotions the books born in me. However, I know that HBO decided not to resurrect Catelyn Stark and I salute them for this decision. I blamed George RR Martin for bringing back this boring character when he could rouse from death so many fascinating others he killed, but who am I to judge?
All in all, if you only watched the TV series, buy the books like NOW and start reading them. They are mind-blowing.
P.S.1 George RR Martin, I know there is almost impossible for you to read this, but if there is at least a small chance you do so, this Reading Badger begs you to stop tormenting your readers and publish at least volume six next year.
P.S. 2. If you enjoyed this articles, you could also check the one on Harry Potter🙂
